Understanding your vehicle's Brake fluid and the importance of its maintenance

Brake fluid is used to transfer braking force from the brake pedal to your vehicle's brakes. In order to do this effectively, it must resist compression. As brake fluid ages, it can become contaminated and absorb moisture. Water in the braking system can evaporate into a compressible gas and reduce braking efficiency. Moisture can also cause corrosion. Excessively low brake fluid level may be a symptom of problems elsewhere in the system. Brake fluid level and condition should be inspected regularly to ensure optimal braking performance and replaced as specified to prevent unnecessary wear from contamination.
